We are so excited to welcome Ashlyn to the Mad Fish team. She brings impeccable organization and killer marketing skills to the crew. Learn more about her below.

Where are you located and what is your favorite thing about it?

Knoxville, TN. I love the unique overlap of Southern and Appalachian history and culture as well as how accessible the outdoors is here. I can be on singletrack trails in less than 15 minutes without ever getting in my car.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Hike, run, read, travel, art of all kinds, plant ID/foraging, analog photography, thrift/antique shopping, organizing (both activism and literally) projects, style and wardrobe curating.

Have any bucket list item(s)?

  • Visit all 50 states in the U.S.
  • Publish a book

What’s your passion project?

I’m currently doing a series of drawings based on objects at my grandparents’ lake house. I am also a steering committee member for The STAY Project until the end of 2022.

Why did you pick Mad Fish?

Values, benefits, potential for progress and growth, clearly outlined expectations and training.

Can you share a favorite marketing resource (blog/podcast/website/tool) and why?

Reddit. It has hyper-engaged members of basically any community regularly contributing great ideas for content. It can be a good way to gut-check how a decent cross-section of an audience might respond to a tactic or strategy. It isn’t perfect, but it’s interesting. I also love Answer the Public, which generates top-searched questions based on topic areas.

What is your favorite genre of music to work to?

I usually get way too into music to be able to use it as background noise, but I like Hz frequencies/singing bowls if I really need to tune everything else out. They also have the added benefit of calming my dog down if I play them out loud.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

I have double jointed elbows.

If you have a pet, tell us about it.

Hueco is a golden retriever mix (we think) that we adopted in 2017 during a “clear the shelter” event at our local rescue. He is smart, playful, vocal, and very cuddly. He will come get me when he thinks I have been in too many meetings for the day. 🙂

What do you add to the team outside of work?

I am like a one-woman version of Wirecutter for products in my interest areas. I’m also deeply rooted in the practice of nonhierarchical leadership and popular education; ask me if you want to know more!
