We are so stoked to welcome our newest team member, May! She joins the Mad Fish team supporting the client strategy team. Learn more about her below.

Where are you located and what is your favorite thing about it?

I’m located in Upstate NY! I love being so close to the Adirondacks and being able to camp and hike some beautiful trails and mountains!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy watching anime, cooking/baking, camping, and making crafts.

 Have any Bucket list item(s)?

  1. Travel back to Ethiopia and stay there for a 2-3 weeks
  2. Would love to see Leon Bridges in concert
  3. See a live Armchair Expert show with Dax and Monica
  4. Go to Japan
  5. Go see the Grand Canyon
  6. Travel across the country

What’s your passion project?

My passion project (that is still in ideation phase) is starting a nonprofit organization that supports individuals who’ve come from different backgrounds through adoption, immigration, refuge, etc. by helping them reconnect with their culture and roots so they don’t lose or forget that part of themselves.

Essentially, those who remember the culture would be educators so they don’t forget, and those who forgot or don’t have any connections anymore would be the students. It would be a melting pot of experiences, a safe space to grow and reconnect, and just a time in those peoples’ day where their guard can be down for a little bit!

Why did you pick Mad Fish?

The culture/values and the drive to really hold the company to them every day!

Can you share a favorite marketing resource (blog/podcast/website/tool) and why?

  • Aleyda solis is a phenomenal international SEO that sends out these weekly emails packed with SEO education and resources.
  • Avinash Kaushik shares great analytics tips through email that are super practical and actionable right away so I love learning from him.
  • “Some Good Content” with John Bonini on Patron is AMAZING. He gives super detailed guidance on all things content marketing, has a fantastic Facebook group that is very engaged, and just overall very actionable guidance all the time.
  • tl;dr marketing email newsletter is amazing for when I’m too busy to stay up-to-date on the many changes that happen in the marketing world.
  • Superpath slack channel—I got invited to this very early on this year and it’s INSANELY valuable to me. It’s a slack channel for digital marketers in B2B and B2C companies and we have regular discussions around strategy, writing, skills, budgets, jobs, managers, projects, and networking.
  • All In slack channel is basically the same as the superpath slack channel—mainly focused on growth marketing and the SaaS industry!

There are a lot more but these are the resources and spaces I find a lot of value in!

What is your favorite genre of music to work to? (Link to your favorite Spotify playlist to listen to at work if you have one)

Love a nice focus piano playlist, jazz, or just coffee shop sounds. Here’s a great site that can make coffee shop sounds and lets you adjust.

Fun fact about yourself.

Obsessed with learning about the human body!l I love learning in general and it’s a topic I’ll never run out of things to discover. I listen to a lot of podcasts that invite guests like neuroscientists, functional medicine doctors, etc. It’s all just really fascinating to me and helps me be better to myself and understand the science around those around me a lot better too!

If you have a pet, tell us about it.

Luna, my dog, and Zazu, my cat, are my world! They are insanely cute and constantly remind me of what is important in life—time with loved ones, time with yourself, and being present for both!

What do you add to the team outside of work?

Not sure how to answer this! Outside of my work skills, I bring a unique perspective and have an infectious cheer that hopefully brightens people’s day!
